M.I.B. Wins End of Season Tournament

March 9, 2010

My M.I.B. basketball season just ended Sunday and we won our McGee’s tournament.  To win, we had to play the Omega Rhinos in the semifinals and M.B.A. Elite in the final game.  We haven’t beaten either team all season, or ever!  But we pulled through!

The day started with the Omega game.  The Rhinos started off hot and hit a few three’s right away.  As the game went on Omega failed to get back on defense.  We handled the press well but the first half ended with a score of 17-10 Omega.  We started the second half fired up and our defense showed it.  Omega has some really tall players and our big man, Zach was a huge factor in making rebounds and shots.  I think he had his best game of the season.  We fought back and ended the game with a score of 43-27 M.I.B.  We advanced to the tournament final game.

Later, we faced M.B.A Elite.  It was really cool that so many of our friends from the Thunderbird teams came to watch our game.   We wanted to beat M.B.A. bad and we hustled and played better defense than them.  Somehow, we ended the half down by two.  When the second half started we kept our intensity up and went on a scoring run.  Tyler and I caused a lot of turnovers which kept the pace really fast.  We won the game and the tournament with a score of 41-32.

Sunday was a day of firsts for M.I.B.  We finally beat Omega and M.B.A. Elite!  Everyone played their hardest and left everything out on the court.  What an exciting finish to an awesome season.

This is it for M.I.B.  Next year we will be in junior high and we all want to play for our junior high teams.  I started playing basketball with Tyler and Ryan in third grade and we have played together for four seasons. When M.I.B started in fifth grade I got to play with Brian, Zach, John and Luke for the first time.  Andrew and Julian came to M.I.B. this season and added a lot to the team.   Next fall most of us will be playing against each other but we will always be friends.
